Let’s talk about something we don’t talk about enough—our gut. And no, I’m not here to tell you to take another probiotic or cut out gluten for the tenth time. I want to talk about what’s really going on when you feel bloated, uncomfortable, or like your digestion just isn’t working the way it should.

Here’s the thing: your gut doesn’t just digest food—it digests emotions, too.

Ever felt butterflies in your stomach before a big moment? Or noticed how stress makes you feel nauseous? That’s because your gut and brain are basically BFFs, constantly communicating through the gut-brain axis (yep, it’s a real thing!). And when you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or holding onto old emotions, your digestion feels it—sometimes in a big way.

What Stress & Emotions Have to Do with Digestion

If your tummy has been acting up, it might not just be about what you’re eating—it’s about what you’re holding onto. Stress, fear, and overwhelm can show up as:

  • Bloating & discomfort

  • Constipation or diarrhea (fun, right?)

  • Stomach cramps that come out of nowhere

  • Feeling sluggish and heavy, no matter how “clean” you eat

  • Random food sensitivities that don’t make sense

And if you’ve been trying to “fix” it by just focusing on food… it’s time to try something different.

Enter: Tapping.

If you haven’t heard of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), aka tapping, get ready for your mind to be blown. It’s a simple yet powerful technique that helps release stress, shift your body into “rest-and-digest” mode, and get your gut working again without another restrictive food plan.

By tapping on specific acupressure points (like acupuncture but without the needles), you’re sending signals to your nervous system that it’s safe—safe to relax, safe to digest, safe to let go of whatever stress is hanging out in your belly.

A Simple Tapping Practice for Tummy Issues

If your gut is giving you a hard time, here’s a quick tapping session you can try right now:

1️⃣ Check in with your body.

  • Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and notice: How does your stomach feel? Tight? Bloated? Heavy? Rate it from 0-10 (0 being no discomfort, 10 being a lot).

2️⃣ Start tapping on the side of your hand (karate chop point) and repeat:

  • “Even though my stomach feels tight and bloated, I deeply love and accept myself.”

  • “Even though I feel stuck and uncomfortable, I allow my body to relax.”

3️⃣ Move through the other tapping points (top of the head, eyebrows, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, under the arm, wrist) and say:

  • “My digestion is flowing easily and naturally.”

  • “I release any stress or tension stored in my stomach.”

  • “My body knows how to heal, and I allow it to do so now.”

After a few rounds of tapping, take a breath. Notice how your stomach feels. Did the discomfort shift? Keep tapping if you need more relief!
