today I am with Shannon Kerr, a certified practitioner in Tapping School, and she is going to share all about being an educator and a mom and how tapping has helped her manager overwhelm her stress. And she's got some great tips to help you today as well. So as we dive in, welcome, Shannon.
00:02:38:11 - 00:02:46:17
Unknown
I would love for you to start off with just sharing with everyone how you got into tapping so where were you before you found tapping?
00:02:46:17 - 00:03:12:03
Unknown
So I have been an educator in many different realms pretty much my whole life, and when tapping found me, I was a daycare provider. And it was right during 2020 when everything was shutting down my daycare, my home daycare had to shut down.
00:03:12:05 - 00:03:44:17
Unknown
And that brought up a lot of stress and anxiety for me, but also for my youngest daughter, who was four at the time. Her social life was destroyed, right? It was just her and me. And so I was having all this overwhelm. She was having a lot of anxiety as well. And, you can't ask a four year old in overwhelm to sit and meditate.
00:03:44:19 - 00:04:09:14
Unknown
So, and we had no other resources, you know, you couldn't go and play with your friends or all the things that used to help her and used to help me. We we couldn't do. And it was at that point that, a friend recommended trying some tapping online, and that was the ticket for me and for my daughter.
00:04:09:14 - 00:04:41:04
Unknown
So I started tapping for my anxiety and for my my emotional responses to how my daughter was behaving as well. And she was able to kind of pick up on that and watch me do it. And it it just changed the way that we, we behaved together. So when the opportunity came in to get certified with you, I jumped on it.
00:04:41:06 - 00:05:05:05
Unknown
And now you're I am I think this is such an important topic and it's a hard one for people to have because of course, we love our children more than anything in the world. But life situations, sometimes the age that they're at sometimes are just more difficult to deal with and really test our limits. So I'm curious how so?
00:05:05:05 - 00:05:36:23
Unknown
Before tapping, you know, you said Covid hit. You know, you had this little one. What was it like for you? You know, well, being certified or after the certification process, what changed for you? What did you notice was different? I mean, I've always because I've worked with children my whole life, I've been kind of trained to observe their behavior, but I never really paid attention that much to my own behavior and my own emotions.
00:05:36:23 - 00:06:04:18
Unknown
And that's what changed. Like noticing, noticing my triggers and realizing where they were coming from. And it it just brought in so much, self-compassion and empathy. Yeah. That's such a feel like missing piece to the puzzle because, I mean, naturally, we're drawn to our kids. Like, how can we make their lives better? But sometimes how we make their lives better is by making our lives better.
00:06:04:18 - 00:06:32:10
Unknown
And that can be our internal world of learning, where our emotions are in our body and how to process them. So, today you are really focused on helping educators and moms in tapping. Is that correct? Yeah. It's I love it. So what is the common themes or problems you notice that they have or come up against?
00:06:32:12 - 00:07:14:19
Unknown
It's it's that overwhelming need to please everybody, like to make sure everybody likes you and is happy with what's going on, both for moms and for teachers. And also that, you're always kind of on the edge of burning out because you're giving all the time. And self-care is really low on the list. Interesting. Yeah. I mean, I can't imagine being a mom and then being an educator or a teacher because it's just a lot of little people that you really care about deeply, that you feel somewhat responsible for, right?
00:07:14:19 - 00:07:52:14
Unknown
That's their success. And some level lands on you. So what have you found? Like specifically using tapping, what do you tap on with moms and educators that helps them find relief? Is there any topics or themes? Big one is learning how to not take things personally. Yeah, both. Both moms and teachers. You know, when when something is happening, when your child is having a reaction to something, it doesn't mean anything about you or your value or abilities.
00:07:52:14 - 00:08:26:10
Unknown
It's just they're having feelings. And yeah, so not internalizing your kids emotions. Yeah. Is there a helping process that you go through at that? Is there any like affirmation that you use or how do you take them through that? Well, I love using the affirmation during the day of I am doing the best I can with the resources that I have, and resources being like both external and internal, right?
00:08:26:10 - 00:08:53:10
Unknown
There's days that what? For example, last night my daughter ended up coming to my bed in the middle of the night. So my resources are a little depleted. I'm lower energy and understanding that I need to give myself some extra buffer space on a day like that, rather than, you know, just telling myself to suck it up. Push through.
00:08:53:12 - 00:09:24:10
Unknown
I can hear like a great tapping prompt, like tapping on the side of the hand and saying, you know, even though I'm really tired today, I love and accept myself anyway, and I'm doing the best I can. Is that what you're sort of saying? That was by tapping this morning. Yeah. So any moms or educator thing, like just even tapping on the side of the hand and saying, even though I'm really tired today, I love and accept myself anyway, and I'm doing the best that I can.
00:09:24:12 - 00:09:57:09
Unknown
That naturally just brings that wave of relief. Like, yeah, you you only have so much energy, so much time, so much to give. And instead of thinking it's not enough, it's thinking, you know, it's enough for right now. It's what I got to give right now. Yeah, yeah, it's it's that process of kind of stepping outside yourself and watching what you're going through, almost like you're watching a movie and being like, oh, you're like, this is a challenge right now.
00:09:57:09 - 00:10:26:07
Unknown
And, sending that love instead of like, that judgment that we're so quick yourselves. Which sort of leads me into your the second tip that you shared with me before. Or. Sorry, maybe this was a third tip, but you said get curious. So I'm hearing, like, tapping helped you get curious versus critical, right? Instead of being critical of yourself for not having more energy, you, like you said, you stepped out and could see it.
00:10:26:07 - 00:10:51:14
Unknown
Oh well, that's why I don't have more energy. So I didn't get sleep last night. Yeah. Getting curious also about, you know, I work with kids in the school now, and I used to walk in and be like, oh, I don't like that kid. Therefore, I'm going to not feel like I want to connect with that kid.
00:10:51:14 - 00:11:18:13
Unknown
Where now I'm like, ooh, there's something about that kid that is rubbing me the wrong way. I wonder what it is. And I actually end up feeling more drawn to them. And those are the kids who I end up having these really important connections with because of the rubbing me the wrong way that probably rubbing other people in the wrong way, and they end up being more isolated at school.
00:11:18:15 - 00:11:46:15
Unknown
So those are the kids need us the most. But whatever they're doing is causing them to be isolated, right? Yeah. So that's an interesting thing. Have you tapped on that before? Like, oh, this child kind of triggers me. And instead of avoiding him, I'm going to lean into why. Hey, it's Jackie, I'm just taking a moment to pause the episode to remind you the learn to Tap free training is coming up this March.
00:11:46:17 - 00:12:09:03
Unknown

00:12:09:05 - 00:12:46:13
Unknown
Yeah, yeah. Just like having that forgiveness for myself to have these reactions. First of all, like, I have these emotions. They're not, good or bad. It's just how I'm reacting. And then if I can bring the charge down on that, then I can start noticing, like, what is it? And and also going back to my experiences and what it's reminding me of from my often from my childhood.
00:12:46:13 - 00:12:49:13
Unknown
Like what? What's the story there about.
00:12:49:13 - 00:13:06:20
Unknown

We're going to be tapping on things like visibility, like healing your body, like, embodying your wildly wealthy woman identity. And then on the last day, we're going to talk about the business of tapping how you can incorporate tapping into your current practice or build a business using this incredible life changing technique.
00:13:35:23 - 00:13:47:14
Unknown
So make sure you go join us, check out the show notes. It is all free and we can't wait to see you there! This is going to be a life changing event. As we always say, tapping buttons you and you're ready for it. We'll see you this December.
00:13:47:14 - 00:14:03:11
Unknown
Oh, I love conversation because that's what tapping does, right? It really unlock the door for someone or something is triggering us, whether it's someone else's kid, our own kid, and someone at work. It is. It's like a little knock at the door. It's like there's something here for you to look at.
00:14:03:11 - 00:14:21:02
Unknown
And to me, tapping has been that tool to understand, well, why is it bothering me? And then for me, when I've had that experience in the past, that person that once triggered me, I often end up feeling a sense of gratitude for them because they showed me something about myself I didn't know. There is that kind of what you're talking about?
00:14:21:04 - 00:14:49:01
Unknown
Yeah, both with, students and coworkers. I've gone through this over the last few years of like, oh, that person that I couldn't tolerate before now I'm like, oh, like, it just transforms the whole relationship. Oh my gosh, this is so powerful. So if you've never tap before tapping on someone or something that triggers, you can. To me it's like tapping into the practical, like this is how you do it, this is how you shift through it.
00:14:49:01 - 00:15:09:20
Unknown
So just try that and you also mentioned see it a couple tips. I'll, I'll hand those over to you now. So number one was get curious or sorry everyone. One is do the best you can. Number two is to get curious. What's what's the next tip you have for everyone? I think it was about self-care, right?
00:15:10:01 - 00:16:01:06
Unknown
Habits. Yes. And, moms and teachers are notorious for, like, trying to do all the things for everyone else first and leaving self-care to the bottom. And what I've been learning, especially about childhood development, is that kids are soaking up the energy of the people, like the important adults in their life. And if you are depleted, that's what they are going to be soaking up rather than, you know, if you are putting in the energy for yourself and showing them that you are worth that time and energy, it's showing.
00:16:01:06 - 00:16:31:22
Unknown
It's teaching them like, oh, I'm important to everyone's important, rather than I get my value from over giving and pleasing everybody else. So, so, I mean, I've went through this personally. I had a bit of a health crisis this summer, and I had to stop and put myself first. That meant my daughter had to be taken care of by her grandparents or other people, and instead, because at first I felt super guilty about that, like I should.
00:16:31:23 - 00:16:53:00
Unknown
A good mom would be there every day for her daughter, but instead I tapped on it and realized, like I am teaching her that I value my health enough to allow people to help me and to be here, you know, long term. So I'm so glad that you said that. And, what did that look like practically for you?
00:16:53:00 - 00:17:15:18
Unknown
So what self-care habit did you implement? Does it lots of things. Or is it just one thing that you started to do regularly? I this might sound funny, but I kind of see myself. I'm in nature a lot. I'm up in, a part of British Columbia where there's a lot of, you can see the forest behind.
00:17:15:18 - 00:17:51:00
Unknown
And so I connect to nature in a lot of the, the thinking that I do. And I see myself like a tree that, you know, when I consider my roots and how I am nourishing the soil around me and having these little shoots, these little kids around me who are growing from that soil, my habits are like the leaves that I grow as a tree, and when they fall, they nourish the soil.
00:17:51:02 - 00:18:24:04
Unknown
So every habit that I'm doing is is creating that impact for my kids and the students that I work with. And it's things like getting out for a walk every day and moving my body intentionally, getting up and journaling each morning and doing some tapping with myself before connecting with my family, who, it's it's everything, you know, like realizing that we are all interconnected.
00:18:24:04 - 00:18:49:12
Unknown
And when I take care of myself, I'm. I'm creating an impact around me. Oh, I love the tree analogy because trees are so grounding and they're slow and steady. You know, they over time, they get stronger and stronger. And so if you were to give somebody listening, that's a mom or an educator. One tip to implement would what would that be for for them today?
00:18:49:12 - 00:19:22:19
Unknown
One thing they could do today to make their experience of being a mom, being an educator a little bit easier? For me, doing some tapping and journaling in the morning has been, just really essential to set the intention for the day, whether I'm working from home or going into the school, because it doesn't have to be an hour or a long process, but just.
00:19:22:21 - 00:19:48:22
Unknown
And it doesn't even have to have like a question and answer kind of thing. But just sitting with myself and noticing which part of me is asking for attention, or what may have still carried over from the day before, or what am I excited about or worried about in the day? Coming up and then doing a bit of tapping on that?
00:19:49:00 - 00:20:07:12
Unknown
I love it. So I know that you have a tapping video for anyone who's listening to follow along with, so they can dive into that right after this session. And I love that we built it this way. So you can come back to that video. Maybe you just do that video every morning for the next few weeks, and I will speak to that too.
00:20:07:12 - 00:20:31:02
Unknown
I some mornings I sit down and I can write a lot and like tap a lot. And some mornings I sit down and it's just two sentences. But the fact that I did it changes my day. So I am with you on that, Shannon. Like as a mom, I'm not I'm not an educator to kids. But, as a mom, as a woman, just giving myself that few minutes at check in, like, how are you doing today?
00:20:31:02 - 00:20:51:22
Unknown
Like, I love that. Is there anything from the day before that you've carried over that needs to be released? And to go check out Shannon session, because I think it's going to be themed. I'm doing the best I can with the resources I have. Is that what you're thinking? Yeah, that's what I want to do, because I think it's something that both moms and educators need to remember.
00:20:52:00 - 00:21:02:08
Unknown
Amazing. Well, thank you for giving that resource to everyone. Please. Everybody go try it. Go tap on it. Tap on that affirmation. And Shannon, where can people connect with you?
00:21:02:08 - 00:21:22:01
Unknown
The main place I'm at these days is Instagram. I am the Shannon per on Instagram. Yeah, awesome. And your reels I think I've watched your reels and TikToks make me laugh all the time, so go check her out because you are secretly hilarious of like these are so fun!
00:21:22:02 - 00:21:34:10
Unknown

00:21:34:10 - 00:21:58:09
Unknown
I think just that we are all doing important work. And when we look at life as an opportunity to both learn and teach, that's where, shifts begin to happen so that you can learn from every experience instead of, you know, just brushing it off as a negative thing.
00:22:01:12 - 00:22:22:21
